What is Kambo? Kambô, originates from the upper Amazonian rainforests and is derived from the secretion of the Giant Letaf Monkey frog. Scientific research has shown that these secretions contain a unique and highly complexed chemical cocktail of Peptides & bioactive compounds which have a powerful effect on the body, brain and nervous system and essentially allow the body to heal itself. The Scientific name Phyllomedusa Bicolor signifies guardian, reflecting the frog's arboreal and nocturnal nature, and has no natural predators, the frog thrives abundantly but faces potential habitat destruction as its primary threat. Indigenous tribes accord the leaf guardian great respect, believing that harming it would disrupt their harmony with animal spirits. How does Kambo work? Kambô is applied to the body through ’Gates’, which are superficial burns made on the top layers of the skin with a natural incense stick to expose the epidermis. It is thought that this method of application allows this Amazonian Secretion to communicate with the brain via the lymphatic system. Kambô is applied directly on the gate and then it travels throughout the body via the lymphatic system – scanning the body for any issues. As Kambô enters the body, it will cause your blood pressure to rise rapidly. This will cause you to experience an increased heart rate and a pounding or rushing sensation in your head. You may also experience skin tingling, dizziness, swelling of the face and throat, momentary stiffness of the torso and feelings of pain in certain areas of your body. This experience will be short lived and will vary for everyone. After this your blood pressure will drop, and at this point you will begin the purging process. This will usually include a physical purge of vomiting and/or diarrhoea aka South Purge, as the toxins are removed from your body via the water you ingested, but may also include an emotional purge, shaking, sweating or fainting. Kambô acts intelligently, it is not psychoactive and does not produce hallucinations, but it can bring an altered state of reality where some may receive insight and messages about living a healthier life. The effects of Kambô are strong but only last between 20 to 40 minutes overall. Once the purging process is completed, the Kambô will be washed off and you will be encouraged to lay down and rest for half an hour or more. It is very normal for the cleansing process of the Kambô to continue, allowing you to have emotional releases, insights and revelations the week after treatment. After effects can vary, from feeling great to wiped out so it is best to give yourself a few hours rest and a good nights sleep you can really start to feel the benefits. If it is your first time sitting with Kambô, you will be offered a basic treatment. In subsequent ceremonies you will have the option of receiving a targeted treatment.
